Scripture

Titus 3:3–7

[3] For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. [4] But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, [5] he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, [6] whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, [7] so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (ESV)

Scripture Reading

One of our Advent traditions is having families read the sermon text both in English and in a different language. We do this because the Gospel is Good News for ALL PEOPLE! This week the Skirpan family read the scripture in English and Korean at the 8 AM service, the Tomada family read in English and Tagalog at the 9:30 AM service, and the Adkins family read in English and Albanian at the 11:10 AM service.

Call to Worship

Psalm 40:9–10

[9] I have told the glad news of deliverance
in the great congregation;
behold, I have not restrained my lips,
as you know, O LORD.
[10] I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart;
I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation;
I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness
from the great congregation. (ESV)

Prayer of Repentance

Our Father in Heaven, our sins have made a separation between us and you, our God, and have kept good from us; and by them, we have defiled our minds and consciences. But you have not dealt with us according to our sins, nor repaid us according to our iniquities. Instead, you have been gracious to us in Christ. Now, being justified by faith, let us have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, and through him let us rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Amen.

Benediction

May the LORD, who appeared in goodness and kindness in Christ’s birth,  awaken your soul to feel its worth in Him. May His Spirit renew your heart, breaking chains of sin and filling you with the thrill of hope. May you rejoice in the weary world’s Savior, who brings a new and glorious morn. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
