THIS WEEK:

From the Sermon: Romans 3:21-31

NEXT WEEK'S SCRIPTURE: Romans 4:1-12

Preacher: Pastor Jon Needham

Scripture: Romans 3:21-31

MAIN POINTS: 1. Grace Alone 2. Faith Alone 3. Christ Alone

Throughout history and all over the world today, salvation is thought to be subjective, personal, broad. Romans clears up all confusion, teaching us that salvation can be found in one place only - in Jesus Christ.

Family Discussion Questions:

1. What’s something that surprised or confused you about this Bible passage?
2. What does it mean that our salvation is 100% grace and God’s initiative? How does that change your understanding of salvation?
3. Define true biblical faith. What does it mean that we are saved through faith alone?
4. Why must the object of our faith be Christ alone?
5. We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. How does this biblical understanding of salvation shape the way you relate to God and others?

Parent Tip:
· Read the sermon summary together as a family. Build this into your regular routine, perhaps reading together around the table during a meal.
· There are five questions, each with a different theme. You can choose to go over all five on one night a week, do a couple of questions a few times a week, or discuss one question per day.
· Each question is meant to be a conversation starter model for your children on how to answer these questions by sharing your own personal insights.
· Even if your conversations don’t go as planned, don’t be discouraged. ALL time spent talking about and reading God’s word is valuable!
· The more consistent you are in having these discussions, the more fruitful they will be. As this becomes part of your weekly rhythm, your kids will anticipate the questions and listen more attentively at church.

Other Scriptures

Parent Tip:
Use these additional scriptures as daily reading. This is also a great way to help your children learn to locate passages in the Bible.

Attribute of God:

GRACIOUS Grace is not giving what is deserved, but instead giving something good that is not deserve. God graciously gives the gift of salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Parent Tip:We focus on a new attribute of God each week to discuss as a family. Use this time to discuss who God is, answer questions the kids might have, and talk about what that week’s attribute means to each person in your family.

Prayer Focus:

FALL FESTIVAL Spend some time this week praying for our upcoming Fall Festival, that our church would be a beacon of light to our community and there would be many opportunities to share the Gospel of salvation.

Parent Tip:
Each week of the month has its own prayer theme: Church, Family, Community, and Repentance. Use these themes to show your children how to pray. It can be helpful to add this to an already existing routine, like at bedtime or when you’re in the car together.

THIS MONTH:

MONTHLY SONG:
Eternal Weight of Glory

Now the days and hours and moments
Of our suff’ring seem so long;
And the toilsome wait and wond’ring
Threaten silence to our song.
Now our pain is real and pressing
Where our faith is thin and weak,
But our hope is set on Jesus;
And we cling to Him, our strength.

Oh eternal weight of glory!
Oh inheritance divine!
We will see our Lord redeeming
Every past and future time.
All our pains will be transfigured,
Like the scars of Christ our Lord.
We will see the weight of glory,
And our broken years restored.

For behold! I tell a myst’ry:
At the trumpet sound we’ll wake.
“Death is swallowed up in vict’ry!”
When we meet our King of Grace
Every year we thought was wasted,
Every night we cried, “How long?”
All will be a passing moment
In our Savior’s vict’ry song.

We will see our wounded Savior,
We’ll behold Him face to face;
And we’ll hear our anguish stories
Sung as vict’ry songs of grace.

Each month we highlight a different song for you to sing together. Singing is an integral part of worship! Singing as a family helps teach the kids how to worship at church, and as they learn more songs, they will be able to participate more on Sunday mornings. You can practice your songs in the car, at the dinner table, when you wake up, or at bedtime! You can also check out our playlist on Spotify and sing along with your favorite worship songs.

Memory Verse:

Romans 5:3-5 “Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. “

Parent Tip:
This is the same memory verse that the whole church is learning and it rotates monthly. Practice reciting it as a family each day at least once. Dinner time is a great opportunity to practice together.

New City Catechism:

Questions 2: What rule hath God given to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him?
Answer:
The Word of God, which is contained in Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, is the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him.

Parent Tip:
We are making our way through the New City Catechism with a new question every month. You can practice catechism questions anytime throughout the day! For the complete list of questions, answers and songs, download the free app “New City Catechism” on your device.
