Scripture

Luke 2:10–14

[10] And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. [11] For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. [12] And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” [13] And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

[14] “Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” (ESV)

Scripture Reading

One of our Advent traditions is having families read the sermon text both in English and in a different language. We do this because the Gospel is Good News for ALL PEOPLE! This week the Zhao family read the scripture in English and Chinese Mandarin at the 8 AM service, Nette Yabeny and the Easley family read in English and Navajo (Diné Bizaad) at the 9:30 AM service, and the Palmers family read in English and Spanish at the 11:10 AM service.

Call to Worship

Psalm 41:1–3

[1] Blessed is the one who considers the poor!
In the day of trouble the LORD delivers him;
[2] the LORD protects him and keeps him alive;
he is called blessed in the land;
you do not give him up to the will of his enemies.
[3] The LORD sustains him on his sickbed;
in his illness you restore him to full health. (ESV)

Prayer of Repentance

Gracious Lord, our iniquities have gone over our heads; like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for us; but, as we are weary and heavy laden under this burden, we come to Christ, who has promised that in him we will find rest for our souls. Rescue us from every evil deed and bring us safely into your heavenly kingdom. Being kept from stumbling, may we be presented blameless at the coming of your glory with great joy. Amen.

Benediction

May the LORD, who appeared in goodness and kindness in Christ’s birth,  awaken your soul to feel its worth in Him. May His Spirit renew your heart, breaking chains of sin and filling you with the thrill of hope. May you rejoice in the weary world’s Savior, who brings a new and glorious morn. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
